75 yrs of IMA,dehradun

“Old is gold” the old and golden proverb itself, which suits perfectly to Indian Miliraty Academy(IMA),dehradun. IMA grows 75 yrs old, celebrating its own glory of past and present. The instituion once started with 40 cadets, now comprise of 1900 cadets and giving this many officers to the country every year.

The institution who embibe its credo in cadets, in its journey as a cadet to an officer, says “The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.”

Last night, i was watching NDTV show on completion of 75 Yrs of IMA with its cadets and officer. For great surprise, an ex-officer, 94 yr old , from the first batch of IMA,dehradun was on the show. Thats a great honour and fortunate for all to talk to him.He personality reflects the persona of defence person. A cadet, who left IIM and joined IMA, said the thing he liked the most till now in IMA was “GYPSY-HEIGHT”. The name given by his commanding officer to a job, which they have to perform everyday. He joined IMA, leaving a lucrative job of comfort, because he wished to take challenges in day to day life and above all the wish to live a life of an honour and passion which he can`t get in that alluring job.

A Major narrated a small incidence of a war to describe the culture of army. Once an officer got injured near to the enemy line, a soldier of his battalion came to save his life overcoming the danger around. Officer asked the soldier,” Why you came to save me, on keeping your life in danger?”. Soldier replied, If i will not save you then who will save you?”. Thats a thing which indian army inculcates in themselves.

If you able impress them from your way of confidence and answer, you will be selected for SSB ())rvice selection board) .

SSB is same as for all entry.

its a days selection procedure, in which various kind of test will take place. On elimination you will be asked to leave the premise.

Its better to get some guide available for SSB preperation.

  10. Dear Anand,
I hope this is not accepted in army selection. They may disqualify you in medical round.

But no need to lose your heart over this. You have a great desire and ambition to join indian army and serve the country.

But dont worry “where there is a will there is way”. Have faith and patience.

Remember dream are fulfilled once in a life time, but if you work towards it and not sitting idle.

seek for other option but with dreams always there.

If i am not wrong then you wish to work in field of administration. Right?

Dont waste your valuable time, go ahead and prepare for Administration jobs in india and serves the country in a new way.

Let me tell me you a small incidence in front of my eye. I saw a guy having great passion for cricket. He lost his left hand in accident. But spirit didnt diminish, he started playing again, with his right hand only and i was surprised to see this play with one hand and the shot he took.

You know why he continued…because of his passion and that give him great satisfaction.

He couldnot make to district team as of disability, but the applause he collected whereever he played was more than anything and really the applause was becasue of this shots making fielder running away all the ground.

So my CADET, believe you a more like a cadet, behave like that, live your life like that and make it to some best Administrative college in INDIA, so that one day you would get a chance to fullfill your dream at least for a day.

    BEST OF LUCK GENTLEMAN

  11. Dear Nishant,
I hope they may disqualify you in medical check up.
But dont loose your heart, if you have a dream and if you work towards it you can fullfill it in someother way. If one door closed another open. So seek for another door. After completing your B.Tech why dont you try to do MBA from MBA at Army Institute of Management, Judges Court Opp AN pore Telephone Exchange, Alipore, Kolkata. Only thing is you need to fight to get there as only 20% seats for others as 80% for army personels. I will suggest you to fight and stop thinking whether you clear it or not.

Start behaving like an Army guy and ofcourse you can achieve it.

    Good Luck

    Ami

  34. Dear Yogesh,
Yes you can join Indian Army, hopefully IMA.But dont be focused on IMA, better try to take the opportunity to get into indian army.Once you get in, you will be trained at IMA also.
So first of start your preparation for indian army openings. Keep checking employment new every week and also check at book stalls for the jobs in indian defence.

    Wish you all the best.

  35. @Karthik,
There is no such way to join Army engineering after passing 12th.
But after completion of your engineering degree in major streams, you can appear for Army UES(University entry secheme) to get into indian army engineering core division. You have passed the interview followed by SSB.
You can also apply for AIT,Pune establised by Army welfare association. But dont think you get into army engineering after completion from here. You have to appear for UES and also get placed in good corporate companies.
My suggestion is to appear for NDA exam, after 12th completion and join army as as officer, you can switch to engineering core there.

    All the best.

  41. sir,
i joined indian army(ima) through UES entry, later due to family problems i decided to resign. when asked by my councellors and commandors i didnt reveal the cause but instead told them that i wasnt stisfied with the job so i want to leave, and resigned. Please tell me if i can join again. My faily problem was a serious one as my parents had met with an accident and already my grand father was suffering from cancer, so in those conditions my young brothers would have to leave their studies and come down to house to take care of parents which i never wanted. My father is the only child of his dad. At that point i was in a fit and had no options. So i called it a quit. Thinking that for whom i m going to earn if they are not OK than whats the use. so tell me if i can again go for ssb.
