Coorg - Scotland of India

Residing in Hyderabad, we  planned to make a visit to Coorg,a hill station near Bangalore. We took a day leave on monday and
started our journey on friday night.

From bangalore, we booked a Tata indica and left for Coorg around 2 pm.  We followed Bangalore-Mysore highway.

Coorg  called  ”Soctland of India” by britishers and also known as Kashmir of South- India.

Coorg comes under  Kodagu district, having good places to visit, like Medikeri,Cauvery Nisargadham,Harangi dam, Tibetian colony, Dubare forest,Bhagmandala,Talacauvery.

We reached madekri around 8 pm in night .This place is 5000 ft  above see level.

We along with our driver were new to this place. As adviced by a policeperson,
we proceeded for Hotel Mayura Valley View, a unit of KSTDC,karnataka govt tourism.

Hotel staff provided us the list of places to visit in Coorg.
So accordingly, we planned very next day, for the Talacauveri and Bhagamandala nearly 40 km from madikeri.

Morning around 8 am ,we left for Talacauveri. We stopped, in between to enjoy the scenic beauty of  hills engulfed by dark clouds. Its was a treat for eyes
and the cool breeze fill us with enjoyment. We tried to capture the beauty in our camera, but  the real beauty which our eyes can see cant get  into  our camera.

Bhagmandla comes in way to Talacauvey, but we decided to go for Talacauvey  first ,situated high up on the mountain. On reaching the top,
we found the surrounding  engulfed in  clouds and too cool.

We worshipped the holy water of Cauveri. we saw a notice board mentioning “not to touch the holy water”, but still people were doing so.
Next to it, a temple of Lord Shiva and Ganesha was there. We had our darshan and  moved towards the stairs going up to the hill.
After covering around 320 steps, we found ourseld at the top. Nothing was visible from there as of clouds. Spending around half an hour there, we decided to go for bhagmandla.

In way to Bhagmandla,we bought forest honey from one shop. They are of different types and tastes.Cost varies from Rs 90 to Rs 180. And you would be surprised to see honey packed in bear and whisky labelled bottles. In way back to car one honeybee followed us for few distance :)

Reaching  bhagmandala,we found, it`s a holy place for hindus, holy river Cauveri with small stream flows here. The scenic beauty from here was awesome and we feel enchanted. We saw few people performing some rituals for their forefathers on the bank of cauveri. We also visited a Temple near by it and left for Madikeri soon.

After having our lunch at Madikeri, we moved for Abbi Falls. A beautifull  waterfall  surrounded  by forest . A small bridge in front of waterfall gives us clear and near view of it.
we can`t explain its beauty in word.

After enjoying the waterfall our next target was to visit Raja`s seat. It`s famous for its view point of the scenic beauty of the valley. Raja used to sat at this place to enjoy the natural beauty.

From there the view of the valley was awesome. It was raining and whole valley was
gripped by raining clouds. Raja`s seat  situated very near to our staying hotel.

In an hour we back to our hotel to enjoy the evening snacks (onion pakoda and Tea).

In the evening, we planned for a walk to visit the Omkareshwara temple. It was 7 pm, when we had a darshan of Lord Omkareshawra. The temple was built in around 1828.
It`s a  mix of Islamic and Gothic style architecture, i read this somewhere, but could not find so in night.

A walk in night in Madikeri was  pleasant and enjoying, with the umberalla saving us from continous light rain.

Much of greenry all around with the area engulfed in clouds and  shower of light rain makes the moment  romantic.
Having  own travel vechile  makes it quite comfortable to visit all  places in coorg. You can’t go for all these places on walk in coorg and you need to be bit careful  of slippery places.

The very next (Third)day, while way back to bangalore we planned to touch out  left places like Cauvery Nisagadhama,  Dubare Forest and Tibetain Colony.

Around 11:30 am, we were in Tibetain colony.

Tibetain colony is the best place to visit in Coorg. We saw the Tibetain monastry, with golden temple of lord Budhha. Its a peaceful place with buddhist scholars all around.
Neatness and cleaness in tibetian colony  absorbs one attention.

One sould not miss to view  golden temple while visiting coorg.

It was almost 12:30, after covering out all those places. By the time we reached Bangalore it was around 5:30 pm.

We took 10 pm bus from bangalore to get back to hyderabad.

While way back to Hyderabad, we were mesmserized by the scenic beauty of Coorg.
